When deciding on music to listen to, I find it really enjoyable to go back to some of my all time favorites. Below I provided a list of some of the songs that have loyally frequented my music rotation for at least the last decade. Let's call this list my "all time angsty favorites”.
I'm So Sick by Flyleaf
The introduction of this song gets me every time. Aside from it being flawlessly attention grabbing it also highlights the singer's raw talent. I tried over and over to mimic a sound like she can make but failed hilariously every time.
Lover I Don't Have to Love by Bright Eyes
Though I was always a huge Bright Eyes fan, Lover I Don't Have to Love caught my attention with its lyrics. When thinking about “angsty” music, this definitely comes to mind.
Zombie by The Cranberries
This song is catchy and well known but the lyrics behind it are the true gold. It took me quite a few times of singing along jamming to this song before I really thought about it.
Hurt by Nine Inch Nails
Though Johnny Cash covered this song wonderfully, I will always love the Nine Inch Nails original. It is one of those “feels” songs for me, the kind where you truly feel the emotion emanating from the music.
Paranoid Android by Radiohead
Lyrics, composition, instrumentals, vocals. This song has it all especially the way it builds up through the first half to the crescendo and then changes sound a bit for the second part. It hits so many different frequencies and “feels” all in one beautifully put together piece.
Criminal by Fiona Apple
This one hits my teenage self hard but still is one of my all time favorites along with most, if not all, of Fiona Apple's other songs.
Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap
This song is interesting in that it has two different sounds for the first part and second part. I like this aspect and like a lot of the unique sounds and styles of Frou Frou's and Imogen Heap's music.
When I'm Gone by Eminem
Too many songs to pick from when it comes to Eminem but this is one of my most played of the older “all time favorites."
